Press Release Body = New Delhi, Jan 22 : The UPA government is all set to announce
the names of few governors shortly to fill the offices lying vacant in some states
or where the terms of the present Governor has expired.

Currently, sates like Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Chhattishgarh and Andaman Nicobar
are not having a full fledged Governor. The Governors of adjoining states have been
given the charge. The terms of the Governors of Meghalaya M M Jacob has already
over and the Tamil Nadu Govenor Surjeet Singh Barnala\'s term is about to over.
Besides, Lt. Governor of Delhi B L Joshi is ailing and on long leave. The Governor
of Harayana is officiating in his absence.

The names of the probables were reportedly cleared by the Cabinet Committee on
Appointment later last week. The Prime Minister Man Mohan Singh is expected to send
the list to the President APJ Abdul Kalam after formally discussing the names with
the Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday.

The outgoing chief of the Intelligence Bureau E S Laxminarsimhan has been tipped off
as Governor of BJP-ruled Chhattisgarh. Interestingly, his appointment was sought
none other than the chief minister Raman Singh, as the state is marreed with Maoist
violence that has killed several hundred of policemen and tribals. Laxminarsimhan
has an expertise in counter insurgency.

Similarly, former minister of Kerala K Shankarnaryanan is likely to be appointed as
Governor of North-Eastern state of Nagaland.

The government has shortlisted senior Congress leader Mohsina Kidwai\'s name as
Governor of Andhra Pradesh where the post is lying vacant after Sushil Kumar Shinde
moved to Centre as power minister.

Senior Congress leader from Rajasthan Ramnivas Mirdha\'s is expected to sent to
Banglore as Governor and a senior bureacrat may replace the B L Joshi as Lt.
Governor. A top government functionary said the exercise has almost been completed
and names might be out either before Republic Day or at the month-end.
